  5. CMF is a comprehensive product for controlling configurations in online
  6. computer storage, and for managing and tracking information using text-oriented
  7. online standard forms. A ``configuration'' is a collection of computer files,
  8. usually organized in a ``tree'' (hierarchical) directory structure, and
  9. containing data in any format. ``Control'' means protecting a version of a
  10. configuration from change once established; a version is a snapshot of a
  11. configuration and a point in time. A CMF ``form'' consists of blocks of text,
  12. rather than just numbers and short phrases, that can be used online or offline
  13. to foster coordination, control, communication, statusing, and auditing of
  14. project activities, and especially for management of the change process. CMF
  15. supports your own configuration and project management policies, procedures,
  16. and practices. It can operate via menu-driven or command-line interface, and
  17. independently or in concert with other software.
